Focus Group (O.R.I.D.) Workshop
I attended a Focus Group Workshop in May 2016. There were 4 facilitators, Gail, Eric, Ms.Tsai, and Arthur, hosting this workshop. They taught, guided and helped us to get familiar with a method, Focus Group (or so-called ORID). ORID is an amazing method/process/way to help people to think, ask questions or lead a group conversation.
First of all, we should set a goal. And then, we started to develop the questions.
- Objective — facts
ex. What does I-Chun say she is passionate about? - Reflective — reactions/feeling
ex. Which sentence is most impressive to you? - Interpretive — implications
ex. Is any suggestion helpful for IChun to adopt? - Decisional — actions
ex. How can IChun make these suggested ways into practice?
We spent much time on defining and clarifying the questions and sorting them into right categories. After that, we practiced with ourselves, another person or even in a big group. I enjoyed the process of learning by doing. Thanks to facilitators’ reminding and others’ sharing, I discovered so many things that I may not notice before.
I was an impatient person who was focused on the results only. From now on, I start to practice to understand and be patient with others who have different voices. I learn so many tips, skills on facilitating a conversation. I can’t wait to implement this method in my daily life and group meetings! HA
Oh! Besides, I made some cool new friends from this workshop!!
